Nigerian Navy Stops Vessel Hijackers

The Nigerian Navy has foiled an attempted hijacking of a general cargo vessel UAL HOUSTON about 16 nautical miles off the coast of Bonny, Nigeria.

Spokesman of Nigerian Navy, Captain Suleman Dahun said six suspected sea robbers had on Thursday July 13th boarded the vessel but that they were unable to access the ship’s living quarters, bridge or machinery room as the ship was on lock down.

“On sighting the naval patrol boat, the robbers abandoned their hijack plot and fled,” Captain Dahun said, adding that according to preliminary investigations no crew were kidnapped and no property was stolen.

The 2012-built, Netherlands-flagged 5,925 gt general cargo ship UAL HOUSTON is managed by Nescos BV of Hoogezand, Netherlands.
