Manufacturer of energy storage systems, Corvus Energy has announced that it has been contracted by the technology group Wärtsilä to supply lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for the first full service hybrid fish farm processing and transport vessel in the world.
Scheduled for delivery in summer 2018, Wärtsilä is providing the ship design and hybrid propulsion system for the vessel which will be built at the Balenciaga shipyard in Spain, on behalf of Hav Line AS of Norway.
To make the newbuild environmental friendly - by reducing emissions - and reduce operational cost, the Orca Energy ESS from Corvus will supply electrical power to the ship's propulsion system.
“Corvus is extremely proud that Orca has once again been chosen by Wärtsilä to power industry leading vessels like this one”, says Willie Wagen, Global VP Sales & Marketing of Corvus Energy.
“This project is further proof that leveraging battery power for hybrid and all-electric vessels is expanding across all vessel types.” he added.
Corvus has recorded over a hundred projects utilizing its Corvus ESS which involves about 1.5 million operating hours at 75MWh.
