An injured crew member of Bulk carrier Cape Enterprise was evacuated by South African authorities on October 26. The 24-year-old seafarer suffered an injury on the left thumb.

The ship’s Master agreed with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and a Government Health EMS duty doctor, that the crewman needs to be evacuated for proper treatment.

At noon on October 26, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Mykonos duty crew rendezvoused with the bulker 8 nautical miles off the shore of St Helena Bay. The injured man was transferred onto the sea rescue craft and brought to shore in rough seas with 3 to 4 meter choppy sea swells.

The 185,909 dwt Cape Enterprise is operated by Japan’s K Line and was heading towards St Helena Bay at the time.
