The keel for the sixth cruise vessel ordered by Viking from Fincantieri has been laid in a ceremony wednesday Oct 18 at a shipyard in Ancona. The first building block of the cruise ship weighs about 380 tons at about 11 meters long, 28.8 wide.

Viking ordered 8 cruise ships from Fincantieri. The sixth unit scheduled for delivery in 2019 will share similar features with its sister ships such as:

  • Gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons
  • 465 cabins with accommodation for 930 passengers
  • Total capacity of over 1,400 people, including the crew

“Viking Star” which is the first of the series was built at the shipyard in Marghera and delivered in March 2015. The second, the third and the fourth, “Viking Sea”, “Viking Sky” and “Viking Sun” took the sea from the shipyard in Ancona in 2016 and in 2017, where a few weeks ago “Viking Orion”, the fifth unit, has been launched with delivery scheduled in 2018.

Fincantieri informed that the last three units will be delivered in 2019, 2021 and 2022 respectively.
